Frequently Asked Questions

Kinetic Kids appreciates all your help spreading the word about our programs. Here are a couple of questions frequently asked about Kinetic Kids programs. Please let us know if you need more fall program handouts, or any other information to help you spread the word and get our kids active!

1.  Why is it important to help get KIDS with SPECIAL NEEDS off the sidelines and involved with sports and recreational programs?

Studies show that people with disabilities are much more likely to lead sedentary lives and, therefore, more likely to develop a secondary condition, such as diabetes, respiratory failure, osteoporosis, or cardiovascular disease.  Sports and recreation programs for the disabled are important because they improve participants’ strength, coordination, and flexibility. They promote social relationships and reduce the need for medications. And parents and teachers report that participating children are less likely to be depressed and often show improvements in behavior, academics, and social interaction.

2.  What programs are availabe to encourage girls ages 8-18 to make positive life choices through exercise and developing self confidence?

The Kinetic Kids' GoGirlGo! program will impact the community by reaching girls with special needs with important health information that leads to increased self esteem, confidence, and positive life choices. Currently Kinetic Kids’ stronghold is on physical activity and improving self esteem and confidence through sport and recreational activities. With the GoGirlGo! curriculum, we will add another dimension to providing these girls a way to make positive life choices through self respect, confidence, and staying active.

3.  Why do parents enroll their children in Kinetic Kids' programs?

“What has Kinetic Kids done for our child and for our family?  It gives our child a place to belong, a way to participate, a way to feel part of the group.  It gives her the opportunity to put her disability aside for a bit and dance, tumble, cheer and laugh.  It gives her the chance to be on a stage and perform.  It gives her a chance to be on the inside. It gives her family the chance to celebrate her abilities. For a parent of a child with a disability, there is no greater gift.”

These are a few of many reasons to help get our kids with special needs active and start teaching kids the right way to care for their bodies!!   Thanks for helping us in our mission!
